Seoul-North Korean media reported today the agreement with South Korea to celebrate a new inter-Korean Summit in Pyongyang in September, the third that would be held in the capital North Korea and the fifth in history. The agreement was reached Monday in a high-level meeting headed by South Korean Minister of unification, Cho Myoung-gyon, and the Chairman of the Committee of peaceful reunification North Korean, Ri Son-gorgeous gwon, in which both sides “sincerely” addressed issues of common interest, said the State Agency of KCNA, North Korea.

“In the talks, both sides analyzed (efforts) to implement the Declaration of Panmunjom and sincerely discussed a more positive implementation”, said the official news agency of the regime, which also collected the agreement to hold the next meeting of their leaders. The South Korean President, Moon Jae-in, and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong – un, will stay in the capital city of Korea in the North which will be their third meeting after meeting on two previous occasions on the inter-Korean border, on April 27 and may 26.

The Summit in September, whose exact date has not yet been announced, will be the third time that a head of State in Seoul travel to North Korea to meet with his counterpart in that country, after the visits of the Presidents Kim Dae-jung (2002) and Roh Moo-hyun (2007). The appointment will mean the fifth inter-Korean Summit in history, and is expected to serve to advance implementation of the Declaration of Panmunjom, signed by Moon and Kim in their first meeting, and which pledged to improve ties and work to establish peace and l to “total denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula.
