translated from Spanish: Bolivian children dance and recycled plastic in poor city

EL ALTO, Bolivia (AP) – bags and plastic containers were transformed into colorful masks and colorful folk costumes and gained new life in a crowded street dance that staged children Tuesday with a public school in a suburb of El Alto, neighboring city of La Paz, to draw attention in favour of recycling in this Bolivian city with high levels of poverty and pollution.

Hundreds of school children took the District of San Roque and danced through the streets with costumes made by their own recycled material in an effort to draw the attention of the neighbors about the care of the environment. Packaging of edible oil were transformed into masks, plastic bags in costumes, tops of soda in vests and carton in the body of animals. Even the music was played by the same school.

“The intention is to reach the consciousness of our neighbors and raise awareness about caring for the environment in our city and the best way is to educate children in recycling through folk dance. “We want that they can breathe clean air as the isotopes to us when we were children”, said Marcos Quispe, director of the Unidad Educativa San Roque, a primary school that houses more than 1,700 students and 60 teachers.

San Roque school in favor of an environmental culture initiative is not a trend, is rather the exception, but actions like that are slowly gaining ground among students in the country. In this note: Bolivia Bolivian children packaging plastic bags
