Those are some of the points discussed on Wednesday, August 22 by the Director of the Center for gender studies (CIEG) in the campus, as part of the permanent seminar “Latin American universities: building non-sexist education”.
Beginning with the experience of the National University of Costa Rica, from the Conference’s coordinator of the follow-up to the policy for equality and gender equity of the campus, Carmen Ulate, this Wednesday, August 22 will be the turn of Ana Buquet Director of the Center for gender studies (CIEG) UNAM, who will be the second speaker of the permanent seminar “Latin American universities: building non-sexist education”.
As part of the process of reflection and University actions against student demands at the beginning of this year, the University of Chile – from its Vice-Presidencies of academic affairs, outreach and communications and research and development, and the Directorate of international relations – invites the University and national community to be part of this series of meetings that will be held with representatives of different schools in the region, in order to learn about related experiences with the institutions and mechanisms that are deployed in order to gender equality and the realization of education non-sexist.
In this case will be the PhD in political studies and social of the UNAM, a psychologist and Director of the Center for gender studies (CIEG) of the UNAM, Ana Buquet, who from his lecture “Challenges for the gender equality in higher education institutions” , it shall submit to the community of the u. of Chile how from one of the region’s largest campuses deal with this subject.
On the occasion, the Professor Buquet will refer to three main axes. The first, dedicated to exposing the findings of the research undertaken by the CIEG with respect to gender inequality in the field of higher education; the second will focus on institutional measures; and the third on the challenges which still has the UNAM.
The activity will take place on Wednesday, August 22 at 12:00 at the Eloisa Diaz Hall of the Central House.
Approximations to reality in a national context where according to the integrated system of statistics on violence against women of the Institute of statistics and geography of Mexico the prevalence of violence against women 15 years and further along in its life reaches a 66.1 percent, the University context is not alien to this symptom, reason by which the Autonomous National University of Mexico created in 1992 the University program of gender studies (PUEG), with a mission to investigate, develop activities teaching and extension around from an institutional and cross-cutting approach to gender equality.
It was the year 2016 the PUEG gave way to institutional strengthening that resulted in the CIEG, who has continued to generate transformative knowledge, i.e. research in view of its application to the University and social context.
Awareness-raising, training, dissemination, and generation of resources to address the mainstreaming of the University measures, along with general and local institutionalization, are part of the Mission of this University body.
Another institutional instances in which participates the UNAM is the National Observatory for gender equality in the institutions of higher education (ONIGIES), headed by the CIEG instance.
