in an unprecedented, the Inter-American Commission on human rights (IACHR) has invited its first thematic audience on equal marriage, following a request from the movement of integration and Gay Liberation (Movilh) and their lawyers.
Historic audience will take place on 5 December 2018 in the framework of the 170 session of the IACHR, which will take place in Washington, leaving their coordination in civil society carried out by lawyers representing the movilh in its international application by egalitarian marriage, Hunter Carter and Ciro Colombara Jurists.
«We are very happy and excited that equal marriage is a subject of the highest relevance for the promotion of human rights to the interior of the IACHR, as demonstrated by the future realization of this hearing that we were managing and» asking for months», said the leader of Movilh, Rolando Jiménez.
He added that «without a doubt the IACHR will make history with this audience that will contribute to promote egalitarian marriage, particularly in Chile, where the Government has refused to comply with a commitment of the State in these matters, following an agreement of friendly settlement (ASA) signed with our Organization. . Without a doubt, the rejection of the Government of Sebastian Pinera to comply with international commitments in the field of human rights, as it is the case with its opposition to key points of the ASA, will be one of the most important themes of this audience.»
The Movilh leader pointed out that its request for a hearing on equal marriage was supported by the Fundación Igualitxs de El Salvador, Legal HDuarte of El Salvador, equal Foundation of Panama, Costa Rica, Association Association citizen access of Homo families and various visible from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Association Cozumel Trans, Honduras and HOUSEWIFE, United States.
This is the second time that the IACHR enter favorably a request for thematic hearing of Movilh. The first time was in 2009, when the IACHR held a historic hearing on civil unions and that gave way to important measure in favour of this type of legislation in America.
