La esperadísima ceremonia de The Game Awards pasó y nos dejó varias sorpresas y muchos premios cantados en cuatro horas plagadas de números musicales, celebridades de todo tipo y chistes de gracia cuestionable.Se suele llamar a los Game Awards “los Premios Oscar de los videojuegos”, y si en algo coincidieron ambas entregas de premios este año es en que el favorito se alzó con muchos premios “técnicos”, pero no fue reconocido como el mejor juego.Hablamos por supuesto de Red Dead Redemption 2, de Rockstar, que venía arrasando en la noche llevándose las estatuillas por su narrativa, banda sonora, diseño de sonido y la interpretación de Roger Clark como Arthur Morgan. Sin embargo en las categorías que más importan nada pudo hacer frente al todopoderoso Kratos. God of War, el impactante regreso de la franquicia, se impuso en Mejor Dirección, Mejor Aventura de Acción y Juego del Año, cerrando un 2018 excelente para el estudio Santa Mónica y Sony.Fortnite fue otra de las grandes presencias de la noche, no solo porque su niño mimado Ninja se llevó el premio al Mejor Creador de Contenido, sino porque Epic Games alzó las estatuillas de Mejor Juego Multijugador y Mejor Juego Permanente — además de lanzar una actualización en el mapa desde el mismo piso del Microsoft Theater, una genialidad.Los indies también pisaron fuerte. Mientras que Celeste se llevó la estatuilla al Mejor Juego Independiente, el genial Dead Cells superó a Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, Destiny 2 y Far Cry 5 en la categoría Mejor Juego de Acción, y la maravilla de Lucas Pope, Return of the Obra Dinn, se alzó con el premio a la Mejor Dirección Artística por sobre God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 y Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Se vivieron grandes momentos en el escenario. Cory Barlog conteniendo las lágrimas durante su discurso de aceptación muestra que aquel polémico video en el que lloraba leyendo los análisis de God of War puede no haber sido puro márketing (aunque nos seguimos preguntando “¿para qué lo hicieron?”). Pero sin dudas lo mejor de la noche fue el show de Dominique McLean (aka “SonicFox”) cuando subió a recibir su premio al Mejor Jugador de Esports.“Soy gay, afroamericano y un furry. Básicamente todo lo que un republicano odia. Y el mejor jugador de esports del mundo,” concluyó el descontrolado discurso que le puso la cuota de humanidad que necesitaba el evento e hizo que todos nos enamorásemos de este pibe que lo único que quiere hacer es jugar videojuegos vestido de zorro.Muchos trailers, confirmaciones de filtraciones y un poco de incomodidad marcaron el resto de la noche.
