translated from Spanish: Durazo Announces strengthening of security in 17 regions

in two weeks will begin the reinforcement of security forces in at least 17 of the 266 administrative regions, which was divided the country by the current administration, reported the security and citizen protection (SSPC).
In press conference, Alfonso Durazo, owner of the SSPC announced that there will be 600 additional security elements, which cooperate on a permanent basis in each of the 17 regions.
The objective of this programme “is the institutional strengthening of these regions, we qualify for priority, through the crime prevention; the reduction of the rates of violence, and particularly the number of intentional killings”, said Durazo.
He added that the trend in the rise in homicides “was notoriously growing in 2018” in these 17 regions, reason by which were described as “priority”.
600 elements will be incorporated in the next few weeks will be the Secretary of the Navy; Secretariat of national defense and the Federal Police.
The 17 regions where the reinforcement will be applied are: Tijuana city Juarez Culiacan Irapuato (Pueblo Nuevo, Romita, Silao) Tlajomulco (Tlaquepaque) Colima (Manzanillo, Armería, Minatitlán and Tecomán) Salamanca (Jaral del Progreso, Santa Cruz, Valle de Santiago and Villagrán) Chilpancingo (Eduadro Nery, Heliodoro Castillo and Leonardo Bravo) Tamaulipas new Laredo Reynosa Monterrey Celaya (San Miguel de Allende, Apaseo el Alto, Apaseo el Grande and Comonfort) Uriangato (Cortazar, Moroleon, Salvatierra, Yuriria) Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo (Puerto Morelos) (corridor adjacent to the State of Mexico) Mexico City Acapulco the holder of the SSPC clarified that one of the situations requiring them to only start only in these 17 regions is the lack of security personnel, so expected that pro nTo be given the approval of the National Guard, because this would open the door for the recruitment of more elements to them.
The measures to be implemented with this program are: Add a State of force of 600 items to each regional coordination as established by the security strategy.
Implement a strategy of prevention of violence in these regions, in coordination with the Segob.
Accelerate the operation of comprehensive development programmes.
Incorporate the State commissions of human rights; the private sector, and academic organizations in security work.
Boost programmes against corruption and impunity.
Strengthen security funds.
In the operation of these tasks will participate in a coordinated manner: the FGR; Semar; the Sedena; Federal Police; the National Intelligence Center; SEGOB; the SSPC; the Ministry of welfare; the Sedatu, and State and municipal governments.
Once operations begin, the program will be evaluated every two weeks to submit a general assessment in 2 months.
Durazo said that 600 additional elements of each region do not carry long weapons, but which are permitted by law and not apply special at airports or checkpoints on highways operations because there isn’t enough staff.
“We currently have between 5-7 thousand Federal police elements in turn, for 130 million inhabitants, this is nonsense (…) “there is no budget to hire more personal, so we have to take advantage of the elements that are in the Federal Police, Semar and Sedena and combine them in a single team (…) there comes the proposal of the National Guard and that we hope to approve it” ended the holder of the SSPC.
