Provide a solution to the crisis of sustainability that through IESA planet is one of the great challenges facing humanity. Avoid each year die as a result of hunger more than ten million people, needs a real solution, as well as the overwhelming loss of biodiversity which every day creates the occupation of natural habitats by human activity. Climate disaster can be not just around the corner, and mankind does not understand it or don’t want to understand it yet.
In this scenario of crisis and uncertainty about the future, many looking for a solution that will allow us to look to the future with confidence. That solution exists and has a deadline: 31 years. That’s the time that could change radically the way decisions that today has the world in this crisis, which has multiple causes, including lack of social empathy, the increase of the population, unsustainable production and consumption modes and ambition h Umaña, among others. But the cause root, the crux of the matter, are decisions that graduates of universities, located in all managerial positions, take day by day.
All those who take important decisions in the world today, are college graduates: those who lead ministries, companies, international organizations and also the majority of politicians. If each of these professionals would take its decision considering the common good, internalizing the externalities and always thinking about the other, undoubtedly the world could change radically, but most do not, because they have been trained to be economically efficient and cost-effective.
The solution is then educate students entering our universities for sustainability and this means simply take all agreed under the auspices of Unesco on education for sustainability, and put it into practice in the universities of the world. Imagine that as a proposal of COP25 arose to establish training for sustainability as an imperative binding, if this happens, within a period of six years could be the curriculum changes and the necessary training so that by 2025, all the universities could really begin to form in sustainability that generation.
This first generation egresaría by the year 2030, beginning his professional life aware of the planetary boundaries and the hardships of poverty, and to some extent, you go changing what they can and influencing the decisions of others. By 2040 these young people already would have positions of middle in organizations and could establish more easily sustainable actions. 2050 already would be those who take important decisions in organizations, decisions prohumanidad and proambiente, decisions that prioritize the long over the short term, the social good on the economic benefit, sustainable use of the the adoption of sustainable modes of production and ecosystems.
They are 31 years old. A short time to recompose this crisis of sustainability that we have been generating for hundreds of years. It isn’t easy, but if this COP25 leaves a real binding agreement, it would be possible to reach the educational authorities at all levels, especially the University, generate the appropriate conditions and manage education, so that it is the real Manager of the solution that the planet needs.
