translated from Spanish: The Chilean Orchestra that has survived malaria and the difficulties of sustaining 14 musicians

Newen Afrobeat band has a new album, as he prepares for a tour of Canada.
Born the year 2012, this group developed the afrobeat musical genre coined by Fela Kuti who combines funk, jazz, rock and highlight.
The 14 band became large stages: arrival in Nigeria was the first impulse for hobnobbing with key musicians of afrobeat, like Tony Allen, Oghene Kologbo and Seun Kuti.
Chileans today have two visits to that country, they have come together to record with musicians and have maintained a link which, moreover, has paid off. Registration of “Opposite People”, currently the afrobeat video most viewed the world, and the implementation in Chile of the legendary festival Felabration, are some of those achievements.
New material
On the verge of releasing their new material, Newen Afrobeat has audience in France, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Colombia and Brazil, a place where just weeks ago filled the Sesc Pompéia, recognized stage of São Paulo.
In the coming days will begin to circulate his new album “Curiche” in Chile. The group will play in Canada, which highlights its step in the prestigious Festival Jazz of Montréal International, July 3.
New Newen Afrobeat plate comes after the singles lead “Chaltumay” – which makes them linking to the mapuche cause-, “Open Your Eyes”, alongside Oghene Kologbo, original guitarist of Fela Kuti, and their last single “jugs”, an homage to feminine energy.
The clip in the Nevado Tres Cruces National Park, Atacama region, seeks the reflection on the water, as they point out in his review on Youtube.
“They say the water that it is a ‘resource’; others have named it ‘nature reserve’, but do book of who? Reserved for what? Reserved for the exploitation and death in times of despair and decline of men and their ignorance. Spirits who know another language, another way to see and name life, show us how you have disparaged female aspects of life and how has been transformed to any existing resource exploitation of nature”, says a review of the video.
Tour in Canada
Since the Group ventures into take their energetic music around the world, Newen Afrobeat has been gaining one place in festivals of jazz, reggae, pop and world music.
The tour that awaits Canada contemplates its participation in three meetings. Their participation in the Montréal International Jazz Festival is a milestone that ranks them as one of the few groups based in Chile, arriving at the musical event.
Before that, they will be releasing his new album, the third after a self-titled album in 2013 and “Newen Plays Fela” (2017).
“Curiche” is the name of the latest material, and with it they will begin a series of presentations, including a launch concert at the Nescafe Arts Theatre and a national tour.
Newen Afrobeat has been present at major festivals in Chile, from Rockodromo Valparaiso, Santiago a Mil, Lollapalooza and Womad. They have come out of tour to Brazil, United States, Nigeria, and attended important meetings such as Womex and festivals of world music in countries such as France, Holland, Belgium, Spain and Germany.
His travels, moreover, are not only music and afrobeat style positioning. In his last visit to Africa some members contracted malaria, experience that led them to different risk situations, and was of high gravity for one of its vocalists, fortunately without major consequences.
