In theater say that making laugh is the hardest act of the item and that’s something that the people of the world of comedy T Iene more than clear. If you don’t believe it, imagine yourself standing on a stage trying to unleash the laughter of an unfamiliar audience.
Now, let’s put some difficulty: do it in regions, where the scene is still in diapers and people are still reluctant to pay for an entry of more than $1,000 to see a comedian in the area. This is the challenge facing Javier Gajardo, a young standapero from Temuco who decided to dedicate his life to laughter in southern Chile.
Javier, a journalist by profession, says he was born with the need to make a laugh to fit and lose shyness and, early on, he became interested in the Stand Up comedy. He says he learned from the best, Felipe Avello, with whom he literally made a custom workshop in the piece of a hotel in Temuco.
“This 3 years ago was impossible,” says the comedian referring to his successful presentations-along with other comedians in the region-in bars in the city.
Today, with a southern accent and the desire to reach the Festival of Viña del Mar, based his routine on how it is to live in the capital of the region of Araucanía, monologue that has led him to appear in Santiago, where he realized the great difference between the price of laughter capit Alinas and the regionals.
Javier is an optimist and sees the future of the regional comedy without the need for this to be a springboard to jump to the capital. However, his dream is truncated when faced with a public surly with the national artist. “I think in Temuco and regions we have a certain advantage because (the Stand Up) is still something ‘ new ‘. The downside is that the public is difficult and you have to know earn. ”
The comedian makes a self-criticism and knows that his presentations can receive as much applause as booing. But, based on his experience, he says there is a lack of support for regional comedy. “People here attend shows that are worth $1,000 if you’re a stranger. Javier says that once claimed $1,500 for a show but this earned him the repudiation of the attendants, who were annoyed and decided to leave the show he performed with other colleagues.
“People in regions don’t pay to see comedians they don’t know, they find us fomes. In Santiago is another wave and there are bars exclusively dedicated to Stand Up. They know more and know what they’re going, “he says.
For Javier, the goal of his effort is not Santiago and he is convinced that “in the future there will be comedians from Temuco who will triumph here and be lined.”
“I’ve seen guys from Concepción who are also doing very well and so, from a bit, in each region there will be people who will take the Stand Up to their lives,” adds the young comedian.
The difference in public is yawning in both quantity and disposition, he says, and for Javier the regional scenarios are all or nothing. “Here you can go very well or very badly, there is no middle term. I think it is still very difficult but for the same it is a challenge and I love it. ”
Javier Gajardo dreams of the future of comedy in regions and together with Diego Urrutia, also regional comedian, founded a collective called Temuco Comedy, which seeks to train young people who want to devote to Stand Up in the region.
“Unfortunately, if I want to cover (earn money), my destination is in Santiago, but I want to leave a legacy in Temuco and at least get my name when you look for Chilean comedians in Wikipedia. My dream is that the people of Santiago travel to see Stand Up to regions and go happy, “he concludes.
