Morelia, Michoacán.-This 2019 celebrates the International Year of the indigenous languages given the importance of the crucial role they play in order for the speaking communities to assume their destiny and participate in the economic, cultural and political life of each one of their Countries.
For this reason, the Universidad Michoacan de San Nicolás de Hidalgo will be the setting for the inauguration of this celebration, proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations with UNESCO, in order to sensitize public opinion on the risks to which They face these languages and the value they have as vehicles of culture, systems of knowledge and ways of life.
The meeting dedicated to the native peoples of Michoacán seeks to debate through the exhibition tables topics ranging from access to information in indigenous languages, the contribution of academic circles and public organizations in preservation, Approaching and supporting indigenous languages, sustainable development and peace, and the celebration of indigenous languages through artistic expression and creativity.
The program is also composed of four lectures given by specialists in indigenous languages, as well as the delivery of certificates to promoters of public health programs in the Purépecha-speaking population, it is worth mentioning that the year International indigenous languages is dedicated to the languages of peoples from the Polar circle to the Arabian Peninsula, from Australia to East Asia and Central America.
The event will take place in the auditorium of the faculty of history this Thursday 16th of May from 9:00 hours, with the participation of the Nicolaita center of studies of the Native peoples of the Institute of Historical Research, the Department of Languages, the General coordination of postgraduate studies, the Academy of the Purépecha language, academic body of political history and culture in Mexico and academic body of history of Mexico.
