President Sebastián Piñera headed this Tuesday in Puerto Montt the inauguration of the Southern Optical fiber (FOA) that will unite the regions of the lakes and Magallanes.
In the activity, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt, the President stated that “the FOA arrived from China and are almost 3000 kilometers of fiber between Puerto Montt and Puerto Williams. We are already thinking of a possible extension to Antarctica, because when you finish a project you have to think about what comes next, “he said.
In addition, the head of state announced an investment of $90 billion, for this purpose, which seeks to extend this technology to the entire country.
Piñera detailed on the FOA that “joins the Continental Chile with the Aysén region and the region of Magellan that represent one third of our territory. That allows us to repay a debt that we had with these regions (…) I recognize the debt with our regions of the south. ”
In the same line, he added that the national optical fiber “will unite Chile as a road and that will allow us all to integrate into the world of modernity with an investment that we estimate in about $90 billion.”
Finally, he ruled that the implementation of this initiative will enable people to have more opportunities to develop “their talents so that they can inform, work, connect, share with the rest of our countrymen and with the whole world.”
