translated from Spanish: Government and cutback in the Central Bank’s estimate: “We will make our efforts to keep this country growing”

The Minister of Finance, Felipe Larraín, commented this morning the report on Monetary Policy (IPOM) which was published today by the Central bank, after having participated in the meeting of the Political Committee in the currency.
The authority stressed that despite a moderation in the expectation of economic growth for 2019 (from a range of 3% to 4% to one between 2.75% and 3.5%), there is good news for the Chilean economy and highlighted the agency’s upward revisions in the projected investment for 20 20 (from 4.3% to 5.1%) And for 2021 (from 3.9% to 4.1%).
The Secretary of state argued that downward revisions on economic activity correspond to point factors in the first quarter of the year, and also to a more complex international scenario.
“In this more adverse international scenario Chile is going to be one of the leaders of Latin America, we will resist in better conditions than many countries the external situation,” he said.
Larraín argued that “a country that grows between 3% and 4% the coming years, and this year probably between 3% and 3.5%, is a country that is underway,” and added: “I want to guarantee the Chileans that we will make all our efforts to keep this country growing , unfolding, generating opportunities. ”
In this line he recalled the measures to accelerate infrastructure investments announced last week by the Ministries of Finance and OO.PP., for almost US $1.4 billion, which together with the low interest rate of the Central bank last Friday , will contribute to boosting economic growth by 2019 and 2020.
“We hope that the private sector will react to these more expansive conditions,” he said.
