Next Friday, a tolvanera from the Sahara Desert will arrive in Monterrey, as confirmed by the Monterrey Metropolitan Area’s Citizen Observatory for Air Quality (OCCAMM).
According to the Observatory, the Sahara dust cloud still moves across the Atlantic and although it has already reached the royal city in small proportions, it will be until Friday when the increase in particle concentrations make the phenomenon noticeable.

As a result of the arrival of the tolvanera, the air quality in Monterrey could worsen over the weekend, however so far the authorities of Nuevo León have not issued recommendations for the population.

The Sahara Desert tolvanera is a year-round phenomenon, but in the summer season it is common to be dispersed to other regions by the waves and currents generated on the coast of Africa.

This phenomenon occurs every year in the city of Monterrey. In addition to raising pollution levels a bit, the sky takes on a reddish hue.
In 2018, the Sahara tolvanera arrived in mid-July, worsening the pollution that the capital was then recorded.
