As she tried to cross the river, the smaller one was swept away by the current. The father tried to rescue her, but he was also overcome. Valeria’s mother, Tania Vannesa Ovals, managed to save her life by being rescued by someone else.
The events occurred on Sunday, one kilometer from the New International Bridge of this municipality, Notimex reported.
The mother asked the authorities for help.  After the search led by elements of the State Police, Navy and Fire, the bodies of the child and her father were found in one place on Monday morning.

According to La Jornada, the family had two months waiting at a camp at Puerta México in Matamoros, an appointment to apply for asylum in the United States.
Seeing that time passed and that after enduring temperatures of up to 45 degrees, the family decided to cross.
Tania narrated to La Jornada that Scar Alberto swam and crossed with Valeria whom she left elsewhere, then returned for her, but Valeria, seeing herself alone, got into the river. The father came back to hold her, but the current dragged them both.
