translated from Spanish: Citizens will be certain of authority’s response with right of petition: Oscar Escobar

Morelia, Michoacán.- With the intention of establishing a term for the authority to respond in 20 working days in the right of petition, Oscar Escobar Ledesma, deputy for the 19th arrondissement with head office in Tacámbaro, presented an initiative reforming Article 8, in the that a second paragraph is added to it, going through the subsequent paragraphs, of the Political Constitution of Michoacán.
“In the Law of Petition of all citizens, the term for responding to requests is 20 working days, a period that may be extended by up to ten more days, and is also expected to be carried out under the principle of consistency with respect to what is requested and what is retaken as well as to determine the basis for more efficient methods of receiving requests for that fundamental right”.
Escobar Ledesma explained that this right of petition can be requested by any citizen to the authority.
“The right of petition is that of any individual or legal person, group, organization or association to request or claim something with the competent authorities for reasons of public interest, whether individual, general or collective.”
The albiazul legislature detailed that this initiative provides that this right may also be exercised by electronic means, postal mail, courier or telegraph or in the means in which the authorities so determine to make the reception of Requests.
The right of petition is useful in cases such as in a complaint of irregular conduct by a public official, to make claims for unjustified suspension or deficiency in the provision of a public service.
