The United States.- Amid laughter and in reference to the 2020 u.S. presidential election, u.s. representative Donald Trump asked his Russian peer Vladimir Putin to not interfere with the elections in which he will seek the r election.
The ironic comment was made at the meeting of political leaders under the G20 in the Japanese city of Osaka.
At the start of the meeting, a journalist asked Trump if he planned to ask the Russian representative not to try to influence the outcome of the 2020 election, as some local media and opponents claim ed Moscow in the 2016 US elections.
“Yes, of course,” Trump replied, and then turned slightly toward Putin, though without looking him in the eye, and said mockingly: “Don’t get in the way of the election, president.” He then raised his right-hand index finger toward Putin and, without losing his smile, reiterated, “Don’t get in the way of the election.”
The meeting was the first between the two since their controversial summit nearly a year ago in Helsinki, in which Trump questioned the findings of his own intelligence agencies about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.
