The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported on Thursday about the arrest of a police officer from the State of Mexico, suspected of being responsible for the death of a pilot and the fall of a helicopter on 16 June in the municipality of Sultepec.

«According to the research folder composed of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF), an element of the State Police likely fired at the helicopter in which three women and a minor were traveling, who were injured at the time of the the aircraft collapsed, while the pilot lost his life from a gun projectile,» the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
«According to eyewitness statements, as well as expert opinions on field criminalmatters, forensic ballistics and injury mechanics, the apprehended probably fired his charge weapon against the helicopter, so the MPF applied to the District Judge specializing in the Criminal Prosecution System, the apprehension order against him,» he added.
In a first statement, the Mexican State Prosecutor’s Office had indicated that the deceased person, the pilot, had been injured by a firearm, but then changed that version, ensuring that he was shot.
The detained policeman was transferred to the «Santiaguito» Prison and Social Reintegration Center, located in Almoloya de Juarez, and was made available to a judge.
The media image News reported that members of the Sánchez Hernández family protested on June 18 outside the municipal palace of Toluca, and filed a complaint with the State Commission on Human Rights, about the attack with shots of state police in against the helicopter, being that «they weren’t doing anything wrong, it was just for a transfer.»
Young Elias Hernandez accused that his aunt was injured, and two other relatives – also women – when policemen fired at the helicopter, which was a transfer to Toluca hospital from Sultepec.
Elías, according to the news cast by Ciro Gómez Leyva, said that his family had cooperated to rent an air taxi, which would help them make a transfer for medical purposes, from the community of Rincón de Cristo, Sultepec, State of Mexico.

According to Radio Formula, state troopers allegedly flocked to the area where the helicopter eventually dropped because they were doing an operation, looking for a member of a criminal group.
According to the newspaper Reforma, when the aircraft fell, it was surrounded by armed subjects, allegedly from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
