In Australia, a disease has begun to spread that can spread only with a kiss, the people most likely to get this disease are those ranging from 15 to 24 years old, we are talking about the virus called meningococcal.
Experts have revealed that the virus needs a ‘near and prolonged contract’ for the bacteria to be transmitted, meaning that adolescents and young adults who are sexually active are the most susceptible.
“It happens most often in people between the ages of 15 and 24, as they tend to engage in more intimate social activities, such as kissing,” Professor Mark Ferson of the South Eastern Sydney District of Local Health told The Daily Telegraph.
NSW Health’s Director of Communicable Diseases Dr. Vicky Sheppeard said the virus can range from mild neck nausea and stiffness to more severe symptoms such as vomiting, sudden fever and mild sensitivity.
“Most people often associate meningococcal disease with a rash of purple-red spots or bruises, but in some cases a rash doesn’t appear, or it might be the last symptom to take shape,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
Dr Sheppeard says that acting quickly is essential to cure, as bacterial infection can kill within a few hours of discovering the first symptoms.
