translated from Spanish: Reform tailored to Giorgio Jackson?

The discussion over the definition of his next presidential letter has become a real headache on the Broad Front. Although all the attention is in the next municipal elections, every party in the coalition has opened the question about who will contest the 2021 presidential primary. The reason? Beatriz Sánchez’s candidacy for regional governance “every day becomes more real”, which would leave – until now – Meputa Pamela Jiles (PH) as the only pre-candidate in the sector.
In that search for a new presidential charter, the name of Valparaiso Mayor Jorge Sharp has come out repeatedly, but for his nearest political circle he “must secure a second term” in the municipality of the port city before embarking on a major adventure. Moreover, in the FA they pointed out that the antibodies aroused by Mr Gabriel Boric inside the conglomerate would take him out “for the time being” of a possible candidacy.
This panorama would leave the deputy Giorgio Jackson as his most visible letter, with possibilities to contest the presidential one, except for one detail: the former student leader does not meet the legal age requirement to apply for La Moneda.
Against this backdrop, an idea has emerged that has gradually taken hold of the frontamp, which is to propose the downgrade of the age to be a presidential candidate. A proposal that has been reaffirmed, after DR deputy Miguel Crispi slipped it in an interview on T13 last week: “Maybe we could change the age limit to be a candidate for President. That would solve a couple of problems (…) maybe people would agree to us changing the age limit to be President.”
Asked if he would formally submit a project, Crispi noted that “if we haven’t, it’s because the whole focus would be on Giorgio, but I don’t agree with a law defining what the age is to be president or to be a senator.”
Introducing a legislative initiative that lowers the age to be elected or to clarify whether you should be 35 years old when you apply or assume, is an idea that has been explored in the Democratic Revolution, but there would be no unanimity in the different domestic sectors or on the bench. Several FA mPs, consulted by El Mostrador, noted that it is “a good idea,” but that it must be a project that goes beyond the figure of Congressman Jackson, which “should not be a bespoke law.”
There would have been “some informal conversations” about it with the Executive by now.
The Deputy and President of the Democratic Revolution, Catalina Pérez, acknowledged that Jackson “would be a very good candidate and a great President of Chile. Unfortunately, the rules of the game don’t allow it, and today we’re not focused on that. We are concentrated in the municipalities, where we know that he will be with the best disposition accompanying our candidates throughout the country.”
Giorgio Jackson’s team noted that the idea is not covered by any of the proposals given to the Minister of the Interior, Andrés Chadwick, in addition to rebranding that the parliamentarian has pointed out that he will not go to re-election in 2021, nor will he run for another office .
