In his speech, López Obrador added that his government plans to “rescue” the health system by allocating 40 billion pesos in order to increase the number of doctors, improve the supply of medicines and boost hospital infrastructure.
Just last May, directors of at least 11 federal health institutions, such as Cancerology and Neurology, called for cuts made to the Health sector in 2019.
Doctors argued that the cut of more than 2.3 billion pesos to Health in this year’s budget directly affects patient care, as they suffer from shortages in medicines, treatments and facilities.
