translated from Spanish: Activists march against dog killings

This Friday at 20, activists from all over Mendoza will gather in Pedestrian and San Martín to call for an end to the abuse of animals. The march responds to the recurrence of violent acts that have gone unpunished or with minimal penalties, and the aim is to demand justice and greater respect for nature under the slogan “Enough of the victims”.
“A lot of animals are disappearing,” activists warn

The protest is the result of a succession of sad news. Days ago, Mendoza was moved by images of horses and cows burned by a fire on the mountain that was clearly the product of the carelessness of humans. Shortly thereafter it was the dogs: no less than 22 animals appeared dead in Godoy Cruz’s SUPE neighborhood after eating poisoned meat. That is why Veronica Julián Marianetti, one of those who convened the meeting, says that while the motto is “Enough of the victims, no more poisoned dogs in the SUPE neighborhood of Godoy Cruz”, the invitation extends to those who want to claim against animal abuse in general. Veronica – who was tiger’s first adopter, the dog who in 2017 was injured after raising a firecracker with his snout – stressed that this will be “a peaceful march” and asked for responsibility for the people who attend with their dogs. In other words, pets can be brought, but those who do are asked to carry a leash. Suspicions

But the worry doesn’t end there. Organizers say animals “disappear” every day. Nobody knows what’s wrong with them or where they end up. It is suspected, however, that there could be groups of people behind these actions whose objective is unknown. As for the SUPE ward case, justice still doesn’t determine who killed the dogs. Godoy Cruz’s “poisoner” contaminated the flesh with an agrotoxic called carbofuran, and – although he hasn’t found the subject – many neighbors say low that they know who he is but don’t give names for fear of reprisals.
