translated from Spanish: Armed men threatened Irineo Mujica

The Pueblo Sin Fronteras organization reported that activist Irineo Mujica was threatened outside his home in Sonora by armed men.
“Yesterday, Saturday, August 10, around ten a.m., migrant human rights defender and Pueblo Sin Fronteras director Irineo Mujica arrived at his home in Sonoyta, Sonora, where he found two unknown private cars parked at the entrance and two people armed with pistols and civilian clothes next to the carts.
The cars were a white Tahoe pickup truck and another one that could not be identified. Considering the strong criminalization and harassment campaign that the Mexican government has launched against his person and against the pro-migrant movement, Irineo took out his cell phone to take pictures of them,” Pueblo Sin Fronteras said on Sunday, in a statement.
“The person next to the Tahoe pickup truck approached Irineo with a hostile attitude and asked him why he took pictures of his car. Irineo asked him why he was outside his home and armed. He replied that he was a policeman, and Irineo asked me to show him his ID. The person showed an ID indicating that his name is ‘Ivan’.
“Irineo could not see his last name or the exact name of the police agency from which he claimed to belong. The person threatened Irineo, saying that ‘this is Mexico, here things become different’ and ‘you’ll see’.” Clearly it was a serious and worrying threat against Irineo,” he added.
The organization held the Secretariat of the Interior and the federal and state police for any acts of aggression or violence committed against Irineo Mujica, “as well as against any other person who is a member of Pueblo Sin Fronteras, in the community migrants and human rights defenders.”
Mujica was arrested and imprisoned on 5 June, charged with human trafficking, but a week later a judge from Tapachula, Chiapas, ordered his release.
On 25 July, a magistrate determined that Irineo Mujica’s non-link to the proceedings was not linked to the proceedings, thus rejecting the appeal of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR).
Following Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs, Mexico tightened its measures against undocumented migration; social organizations have accused the Mexican government of criminalizing migration.
