translated from Spanish: Supreme Court elects quinine for minister with new format after the misstep of Dobra Lusic

On Monday, the Supreme Court plenary further narrowed the list of 16 candidates and designed a kine with the 5 names that have options to join the court.
The five candidates to replace the quota left by Minister Héctor Carreño, who retired in April are: Roberto Contreras, who got 10 votes; Miguel Vasquez, with nine votes; Leopoldo Llanos, with eight and Mario Carroza, with seven. The fifth of the quina is Sergio Mora, who was included in his own right as he was the oldest of the ladder.
The new judge will become part of the Third Constitutional Chamber, which is responsible for opinions on issues related to isapres and the environment, among others.
This was the first nomination of candidates with the new format, following the problems that brought the appointment of Dobra Lusic. The candidates now had to set out their reasons to the House. In this first instance, 16 candidates applied.
Another change is that this appointment will be the first, after Maria Angélica Repetto, in which it will “depoliticize” as much as possible the designations in the Supreme Court.
For that, the Senate Constitution, Legislation and Justice Committee will poll the hypothetical name chosen. After this, Sebastián Piñera will send a name, but he will do so after being sure of this step, so that he does not fall into Congress.
