translated from Spanish: Piñera convenes meeting at La Moneda to host crisis at the National Institute

From 18:30 on Monday, the crisis that is going through the National Institute (IN) will be addressed in the Mint, the product of various acts of violence that have spread for almost five months.
According to El Mercurio, the meeting was convened by the Presidency and president Sebastián Piñera, interior ministers, Andrés Chadwick, Education, Marcela Cubillos, and the supporter of the establishment, which is the mayor of Santiago, are expected to attend Philip Alessandri.
One of the topics to be addressed would be the advancement of the end of the school year, a measure that experts said would have complications from the impact it could have on nearly 4,000 students.
The meeting would also propose a package of measures to improve the quality of public schools.
Another issue to be addressed will be security, taking into account the acts of violence that have occurred during this year not only at the National Institute, but also in other emblematic establishments, such as the Lyceum of Application, where there were protests on Wednesday Past.
Exclusive prosecutor for the IN
On the other hand, the president of the Center of Parents and Representatives (Cepain), Elba Martínez, considered that “we need an exclusive prosecutor for the Institute (National) and all the emblematic lycées, who solves this issue, eradicating violence”. Martinez argued that the idea is that the prosecutor “deal with investigating what is going on, where this violence comes from, where it is born because the boys do not act alone, that is already known”.
In addition, the president of the IN Parent and Power Corporation added that “we are asking that the rule of law prevail (…) It’s time for these people who are doing tremendous damage to get out of school, whether it’s putting guards, with city guards, more doormen. I believe that the Government can help in this, if the municipality is overstepped.”
Dialogue with the hoods?
Meanwhile, the rector Fernando Pérez told Canal 13 to be available to hold a dialogue with the “hood”, “wherever they want, whenever they want, to understand them”.
Pérez’s statements caused annoyance to the Minister of Education, Marcela Cubillos, who argued that “the rector cannot say on television that he is available to talk to the hooded whenever they want, if appropriately expelling them using its legal powers and the duty it has to ensure the right to education for the rest of the educational community he runs. It’s students who want to study who they should listen to.”
