The Municipality of Santiago, reported that Professor Lilí Orell, will assume from September 2, as interim director of the National Institute, until March 2020.
Orell has served as Secretary of Education of the Metropolitan Region, director of municipal establishment and led the Municipal Education Directorate of Recoleta.
The Acting Director of the National Institute is Professor of State in Physics and Natural Sciences, Master in Management and Educational Management and Master in Education Management and Management in the New Digital Environment of the Autonomous University of Madrid.
“We have to work for a common good, return to the path of history and manage what the future of the Institute means, the process of modernization is key and we have every intention of renewing vows with institutionality, with identity, with quality and leadership. This is the beginning that marks a milestone, because it means the modernization of the country’s public education emblem,” Orell said after his appointment.
The mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, assured that “together with the school community we will modernize the Institute, make the infrastructure changes and educational program that are so much required. We’re going to leave the bitter days behind and focus on a new institute that’s going to continue to shine as the nation’s light bulb.”
Orell will be the second woman to head the establishment, after Olga Vivanco, who did so between 1986 and 1990.
