translated from Spanish: Donate a thousand books for the rural schools of Cerro Castillo and Colegio Patagonia de Coyhaique

On August 22nd, the mayor of Vitacura, Raúl Torrealba, traveled to Coyhaique to carry out two important activities for the population. But in this case, the direct beneficiaries would not be the neighbors of its commune but the inhabitants of the southern zone.
Together with Green Books and Fundación Patagonia de Aysén, Vitacura’s head donated a thousand books to complement the library of the rural schools of Villa Cerro Castillo and start the Patagonia School.
“The importance of reading in education is fundamental and access to these children from more remote places makes it more comforting, books are the ones that have been recycled in our recycling market on the first Sundays of each month,” Torreslba said.
For a few years now, the neighbors of Vitacura have delivered books in different points of the commune to give it a new use through Green Books. This contribution may mean that more people have access to reading or that they also contribute to money to organizations that help vulnerable people.
Meeting of mayors

In the context of its agreements with more than 150 municipalities in Chile, the mayor of Vitacura also participated in a meeting with the buildings of Patagonia to discuss the importance of associativity between municipalities for tourism potential. The idea is that it is the communities themselves who manage and can benefit from the resources that come from visits to the national parks of the region.
The proposal included analyzing measures such as promoting vocational technical education in the tourist area from schools, to form human capital to meet the challenge. In addition, train neighbors, micro-entrepreneurs and small producers who can boost the tourism industry in the area.
Among the participants was the mayor of Río Ibáñez, Marcelo Santana; the mayor of Coyhaique, Alejandro Huala; the mayor of Cochrane, Patricio Ulloa; the mayor of Aysén, Oscar Catalán; the mayor of Torres del Paine, Roberto Cardenas, the mayor of Villa O’Higgins, Roberto Recabal; the mayor of Puerto Cisne, Francisco Roncagliolo, among others.
