translated from Spanish: Muñoz Ledo resigns chairmanship of Board of Directors

Porfirio Muñoz Ledo announced on Tuesday his resignation from the presidency of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, following the opposition’s claims for the refusal to have another party take that position, instead of Morena.
Last Sunday, PAN lawmakers even compared Muñoz Ledo to Porfirio Díaz.
“I have decided to announce my withdrawal from the Presidency of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies. In the face of a possible constitutional crisis, the political solution is to foster understandings to reach an agreement that allows institutional transit,” Muñoz Ledo said on his Twitter account.
“I will promote and accompany parliamentary dialogues that lead to agreement on the Presidency of the Board of Directors, I will not be an obstacle to understandings and ensure the legality of a crisis-averting process,” he added.
Lawmaker Martha Tagle, in an interview with Milenio TV, said that after Muñoz Ledo’s resignation there is still uncertainty as to whether there will be rotation, and another party will hold the board presidency, rather than Morena. The PAN has claimed it was their turn to have that place.
Mario Delgado, coordinator of the deputies of Morena, also mentioned to Milenio TV that on Wednesday his bench will discuss what is the next step.
Hours before Muñoz Ledo’s resignation, Morena proposed an amendment to the Organic Law of Congress, so that that party would have a year and a half the presidency of the Board of Directors, and the remaining year and a half will be divided between the PAN and PRI benches , and the fourth political force.
On their Twitter, PAN and PRI accounts were satisfied and even praised the “congruence” of Muñoz Ledo now.

We recognize the congruence of @PMunozLedo “… for a reason of state, a statesman.”
The members of @AccionNacional will continue to defend democracy, its institutions and respect for the law.
