translated from Spanish: First Travel Sale Chile surpassed US$ 20 million in travel

Between Thursday 29 August and Monday 2 September the first version of Travel Sale Chile was held, an event coordinated by the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS), in conjunction with the Chilean Association of Empres (ACHET), the Federation of Tourism Companies of Chile (Fedetur), and with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism, through the Undersecretariat of Tourism and the National Tourism Service (Sernatur).
According to preliminary information, participating companies received more than 3 million inquiries, which resulted in the purchase of tour packages, flights, hotels, circuits, cruiseships and associated services for more than US$ 20 million.
Beyond the favourable figures, the organising institutions particularly appreciated the use of the initiative as an effective bridge to promoting consumer access to the experience of travelling at affordable prices, giving a boost to the national tourism industry, one of the areas of greatest potential in our economy.
Carlos Soublette, general manager of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) highlighted “the ability of industry players, including companies, trade unions and government authorities, to work collaboratively for the benefit of consumers and development of national tourism.”
The Undersecretary of Tourism, Mónica Zalaquett, highlighted the results of this first version of the Travel Sale, noting that “the number of consultations and purchases gives an account of the importance that leisure and rest time has for people. Initiatives like this are valuable, as they promote the development of the tourism industry, by allowing access to discounted prices so that, every day, more Chileans are encouraged to know more about their country and reenchant with it.”
