The Government plans to announce on Tuesday the renewal of the “Care Prices” programme to mitigate the impact of inflation on the prices of the basic food basket, and the authorities negotiate with employers increases not exceeding 5%. Last Saturday, the deal that had been in force since May, which was integrated with 543 products with an average increase of 4.91% compared to the January list, expired.
In the negotiation, the Government seeks a price update of 5%, while companies are looking for a bigger increase, taking into account the acceleration in inflation expected for August and September. Cumulative inflation since May, when the last price agreement signing took place, was 8%, excluding the August price impacted by the devaluation after the primary election. Simultaneously with the “Care Prices” program, the “Essential Prices” plan, approved in April and consisting of 64 products that hold their values for six months, will continue until October.
