On Monday, referents from the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) held a meeting with the Ministers of Social Development (Carolina Stanley) and Production and Work (Dante Sica) to discuss the reopening of couples and the food emergency. According to trade spokesmen to the Télam news agency from the central, they demanded “the immediate reopening of the parity, the payment of a universal bonus of 5,000 pesos before the end of September, the reinforcement of budget items for canteens and the immediate declaration by law of the food emergency.” To support the claim for wage renegotiation, the leaders referred to “the sharp increases in the prices of food basket products after the primary elections” on August 11 and “the high inflation rate” as revealed by Gerardo Martínez (owner of the UOCRA) who attended the meeting. “If employers and workers agree to an increase, Production and Labor must homologate it,” he added. On the other hand, they confirmed that the CGT also demanded “payment of a universal bonus in September” worth 5,000 pesos.
After the end of the meeting, the two national officials agreed to qualify as positive and announced that “the immediate formation of a working table was agreed.” However, Stanley clarified that in the case of the food emergency declaration,” it is an initiative whose approval is the exclusive spring of the National Parliament.” In addition to Stanley, Sica and Martínez, Héctor Daer (Sanidad), Carlos Acuña (service stations), Antonio Caló (UOM), José Luis Lingeri (Health Works), Andrés Rodríguez (UPCN) and Armando Cavalieri (Commerce) participated in the meeting.
