translated from Spanish: 100% self-consumption photovoltaic plant opened in the country

Energy Ministers Juan Carlos Jobet and Environment, Carolina Schmidt, today inaugurated a solar self-sufficiency system of the ideal company, which will generate approximately 3.0 Gigawatts anua [l], mitigating 1,310 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere, which is equivalent to planting an area of more than 88,870 trees.
It is the private photovoltaic roof, built on a nave, largest in the country and the second largest in Latin America, which will generate 27% of the energy consumed by the company.
The project considered the installation of 6,444 photovoltaic panels on an area of 25 thousand m2, 57 inverters and includes a charger for electric vehicles.
Smaller-scale self-generation facilities are part of the 5,654 existing in the country under the Distributed Generation Act, with an installed capacity of 35.4 MW. Of the total generation facilities distributed 85% corresponds to residential homes
This legislation was amended last year to increase the installed capacity of individual projects from 100 kW to 300 kW.
“The installation of solar panels in homes, schools, SMEs and businesses is advancing in leaps and bounds. In the last year the number of such facilities has doubled, and their growth continues very strongly. That’s why I see enormous potential and development in smaller-scale power generation, taking advantage of the inexhaustible resource of the sun and falling technology prices,” Minister Jobet said.
The Energy Holder added that the government’s goal is to “increase by four the number of distributed generation facilities because we know this has a real impact on the pocket of businesses and families and also improves the environment.”
The activity was also attended by the Deputy Ceo of Grupo Bimbo, Rafael Pamias, the General Manager of IDEAL S.A, Enrique Martínez, and Julian Willenbrock, co-founder and CEO of Enlight, a solar panel provider.
For the deputy CEO of Grupo BIMBO, Rafael Pamias, this inauguration project is “a tangible example of how companies can deliver concrete solutions and generate sustainable value in the places where they operate. We are convinced that Chile is the right country to continue to grow sustainably, which we hope will be replicated by the rest of the companies, not only in the region, but also in the rest of the world.”
