translated from Spanish: UEFA launches campaign to address concussions

During the second day of the Champions League, UEFA began a campaign to improve the attention of concussions that occurred during football matches.
The awareness campaign is focused on players, coaches, doctors and the general public about this type of injury; stresses the importance of respecting the decision of doctors when there is suspicion of shock or when it is confirmed.
A concussion is a traumatic injury that affects brain functions and although they are usually temporary they can cause headaches, problems with concentration, memory and balance.
According to the UEFA Medical Committee, the three minutes granted by the current procedure to assess whether or not there is a concussion are insufficient and with such a limited amount of time doctors may be subject to “excessive pressure from players and team employees.”
In an immediate response, since April the organization placed posters in the dressing rooms stating the procedures in case of commotion and it is recalled that the decision of the medical body must be respected.
A medical video review system was also provided to all teams that played in the Champions League, European League, Super Cup and League of Nations finals, which allowed to review the live images in order to assess the possible incidents of Concussion.
UEFA asked FIFA and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to review the rules of the game to introduce appropriate measures.
