translated from Spanish: Municipality of Quillota apologizes for such councillor transphobics

Following the denunciation of the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation (Movilh), the municipality of Quillota apologized for the transphobic sayings of one of its councillors, José Rebolar, as well as for the laughter and mockery of its co bees that took place at a session on October 7.
The statement came after the Movilh publicly released a video with Rebolar’s statements and sent a letter to the mayor and all quillota councillors, demanding that they offer public apologies, “We value that the municipality react and apologize to all the people who were offended not only by Rebolar’s statements, but also by the accomplice laughter of all the other councillors, except the edil Carlos Pacheco, who came out in defense of the dignity of the trans population”, the head of the Movilh Human Rights Area.
“With these apologies we move towards constructive dialogue,” Gomez said
The leader considered, however, “that apologies must be accompanied by concrete and clear preventive measures of discrimination. In this case, the municipality should train all its officials on issues of sexual and gender diversity. What happened on the council reflected discrimination, but also a lot of ignorance. This is met with education. Without education, other anti-discrimination actions can be misimplemented.”
The following is the public declaration by the municipality:
“In view of the public impact that the events have had during the “Miscellaneous Points” section of the last Session of the Municipal Council of Quillota, this Monday, October 7, for regrettable sayings that offended the Community of Sexual Diversity, the Councillors undersigned feel a responsibility to offer sincere apologies to all those who were affected by these approaches.
At the same time, the Municipality of Quillota represented by its Mayor (s) Scar Calderón Sánchez, empathizes with her pain and adheres to these apologies expressed by the Councilors, in the understanding that human dignity and respect, independent of conditions, circumstances or gender, is an impassable commitment, as reflected in this municipal management led by Mayor Dr. Luis Mella Gajardo, who has permanently advocated social inclusion through innovative and participatory work, which is nationally and internationally recognized, with permanent support from the City Council.
As a result of what happened, on Friday a meeting of the members of the Municipal Council was held, assuming and making their own the sites made by various organizations that work in the defense of the rights of people of the LGTBI community +.
This regrettable experience urges us, as a Collegiate Corps and as a Municipality, to redouble the efforts we have already made, in favour of the inclusion of all people in general and sexual diversity groups in particular, especially people referred to directly in this City Council Session, and consequently, both the Councillors and the Municipality are made available to the organizations involved, to work together and further develop community policies that promote the respect and well-being of all people.”
