translated from Spanish: Briones defends tax deal and urges the “super rich”: “They are convinced that they are middle class”

Finance Minister Ignacio Briones announced that they signed with opposition and official senators, a protocol of agreement on tax matters, which includes the collection of a surcharge for homes with an appraisal $400 million.
In a radio DNA interview, the minister explained this agreement, stating that he considers natural and legal persons, and consolidates it into the same ruth.
Briones also had words for the detractors of this initiative, who indicate that this tax will affect the middle class and not just the “super rich”: “There has been a lot of speculation here and there was a lot of noise during the week that this was an enforced to the class Average. There was talk without even knowing the stretch and the fees. Here I want to be emphatic, I want the Chileans to understand perfectly well: when we talk about a $400 million tax appraisal real estate asset, we’re talking about $800 million commercial property.”
“Does anyone really mean that’s a middle-class person? A middle-class person in our country is a person who has an income of $1.5 million or $2 million Can a person with that income have such a property?” he asked.
“Let’s be serious about this matter. I’m surprised at the dissonance on this plane. The richest sector in this country has the deep-held conviction that it is middle class, and I think that’s part of the problem we have,” he stressed.
In that sense, he added, “those properties that we are betting on are part of the 1% of properties of the greatest appraisal and certainly form part of the people who are in the richest 1% or 0.1% of this country. So, I think it’s very important to talk seriously, with the numbers.”
“People know that a $800 million house is not middle class. People aren’t dumb. Stop playing with people, stop passing wrong messages. You have to be aware of what one is. The people who have this house need to know that it’s not middle class,” he concluded.
Business turnover has fallen
Minister Briones also made a commercial analysis of the situation in the country after the social outburst.
In this regard, he said that in the first 15 days, turnover, which represents sales of companies, had fallen 45%, which made clear the negative impact of what is happening with the country running at half-machine.
He warned that the most complex scenario is the institutional flank so “it is essential that the political class re-generate agreements and let the fight small.”
