translated from Spanish: Sergio Báez says the Revocation of Mandate is a breakthrough in the country’s democracy

Morelia, Michoacán.- By means of a statement the local deputy belonging to the Parliamentary Group of the National Regeneration Movement party (Morena), Sergio Báez Torres, assured that the minutes approved by the Congress of Michoacán, in the field of Consultation Mandate-Based, is a major step forward in Mexico’s democracy, providing the people with an instrument to remove a popular representative from their task.
In the face of the rejection of the opposition bench in the vote, the legislator representing the 21st District recalled the amendments made to the original law, which give certainty to the opinion.

“This idea was broken that what was in place was to secure or take an advantage in relation to the election of the President of the Republic. The instrument was gone until 2022, out of all electoral process.”

According to the congressman of Morena, the challenge following its approval is to make the mechanism conform at all times to the law and ensure that it is the National Electoral Institute that conducts the consultation legally, as well as to ensure that the process is valid correctly.
Báez Torres noted that the Revocation of Mandate will make the work of the rulers more effective, having an element of evaluation in the hands of the citizens, who will be able to make effective in the middle of their mandate and not until it is concluded.

“It’s a way to give the ruler the possibility of having a process of evaluating the citizens themselves who elected him,” he reiterated.

Finally, the deputy of the LXXIV Legislature mentioned that all parties and political forces must be vigilant of the mechanism, because there are always characters with temptations who seek to destabilize legitimately constituted officials.
