Morelia, Michoacán.- “The revocation of the mandate is a procedure by which citizens may cease their public office to an elected official before the end of their respective term, which gives the people the power to decide on the stay in the power of its rulers,” the local deputy and president of the Congress of the State of Michoacán, Antonio de Jesús Madriz Estrada, said categorically, in a statement.
Interviewed after the adoption of the minutes with draft decree encompassing several reforms to the Constitution in the topics of popular consultation and revocation of mandate, Madriz Estrada celebrated that Michoacan legislators let the population know about the new elements of citizen participation, which, he said, “will certainly set a new course for the country.”
“Let us not forget that the people are wise; the people put and the people take away,” the Moreen legislator said for the XXII district with the head of Múgica, who explained that Michoacán gave the 9th vote that is required for the opinion of popular consultation and revocation of mandate to be effective , the basis of which would be the principle of the political freedom of citizens to elect and depose their rulers into a representative democracy.
Finally, Madriz Estrada argued that it will be of paramount importance to follow up on this measure in a timely manner, as it is the duty of legislators to ensure the right of citizenship.
