translated from Spanish: Mass demonstrations don’t leave Piazza Italia or regions a month after the October Rebellion

Today marks 29 days since the start of the social outburst. Despite the new social pact agreed during the early morning by most political parties, demonstrations do not stop in Plaza Italia, as thousands of people arrived again at the emblematic place to continue protesting under the slogan “the struggle continues”.
It is the fifth Friday of mobilization since October 18 at the nerve point of the capital and, despite being ad portas to meet a month in crisis, clashes between Carabineros and protesters remain the black spot of the marches, since, during the afternoon, Special Forces prevented people from approaching the characteristic monument. But eventually, the uniformed forces decided to leave the place and the protesters were able to concentrate around Plaza Italia. There they unfurled a canvas with the legend “Chile will be the tomb of neoliberalism” and protested under the cry “Chile awoke”.
However, Carabineros would later intervene with his car throwing water and tear-gas bombs.
This Friday’s call comes at hours of the historic understanding reached by political forces in Congress, dubbed the Agreement for Social Peace and the New Constitution, which will allow progress towards a Magna Carta of replacement to the 1980 Constitution, with citizen participation.
The approved formula includes plebiscite of entry where it will be consulted by two mechanisms (100% elected Constitutional Convention or Mixed Constitutional Convention, i.e. with the participation of congressmen), drafting with “blank sheet” excluding regulations in the current Magna Carta, and ratifying plebiscite.

Mobilizations in regions
Demonstrations have also been reported in regions, albeit to a smaller extent than in previous weeks. In Iquique, a group of protesters set up barricades this afternoon in the middle of Héroes de la Concepción de Iquique Avenue, in front of the University of Santo Tomás, the SoyIquique media reported.
In Valparaiso, workers in the sector marched for improvements in public health. The mobilization arrived in an orderly manner in the Parc Italia, where no major incidents were reported.
