“It was part of the interoceanic railway that was dominated by the Zapatista army. And so it has been named after ‘Petra’, in honor of the northern revolutionary Petra Herrera, who commanded a brigade of women in the takeover of Torreón,” Zóe Robledo, coordinator of the organizing committee of the patrio festivities, explained at a morning conference.
“This locomotive ceased to circulate in 1968, was for some time at the Monument to the Revolution and then spent several years at the Railway Museum and we will now have it for a few days here on the Zocalo’s iron,” he added.
