THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC GOLPEES THE AUTONOMY PROCESSES OF THE P’URHAPECHA COMMUNITIES
Communities P’urhépecha, 20 November 2019.

The Michoacán Indigenous Supreme Council (CSIM), an autonomous council made up of civil, communal and traditional authorities from 60 native communities, jointly declares the following:
On November 19 at 9 p.m. a crash group made up of militants from the political parties of Morena, the PRI and the PRD, led by Celerino Felipe Cruz, in charge of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI) in Michoacán, using his office as a representative of the Government of the Republic with the original peoples of the entity, through his brother Leonel Felipe Cruz attacked, struck, threatened and attempted to lynch members of the Council of The Communal Government of Comachuén and burn their houses, with a balance of 15 Wounded.
This is part of the Mexican State’s strategy to stop and end the processes of self-determination, autonomy and self-government of the original communities, because because they cannot suppress the Councils of The Community Government, they have initiated processes to change them and impersonate them with people related to political parties and personal interests, all of this, using federal institutions, their public resources and their support programs, conditioning their delivery to in a clientand partisan way.
It was thanks to the organization of the Council of The Comunal Government of Comachuén that they managed to stop the ferocious aggression orchestrated from the offices of the entity’s INPI, that in fact it represents a direct aggression by the Government of the Republic, who despite the official discourse, in fact it does not respect the free self-determination of indigenous communities.
Despite mobilizations, closures of INPI facilities in the municipalities of Pátzcuaro, Cherán and Morelia, taking over facilities of the Ministry of The Welfare Delegation Michoacán and taking simultaneously of various roads in the state, the Government of Mexico through INPI, systematically refuses to respect the rights of indigenous peoples. For the above:
We are on high alert, calling on all communities belonging to the CSIM to soon block roads and federal institutions throughout the state in support of the Comachuén Community Government Council. If they attack one, we’ll all deal.
We call on social organizations, trade unions and indigenous movements to speak out against the Federal Government’s intervention in the processes of self-determination and autonomy of the p’urhépecha communities.
We hold the Government of the Republic and the Government of Michoacán accountable for the acts of violence, division and violation of rights currently being suffered by the community of Comachuén.
