translated from Spanish: Judge Federico Mosco suspended after reclassifying crimes in April case

The Judiciary of Mexico City (PJCDMX) reported the suspension of control judge Federico Mosco Gonzalez, who has issued resolutions that in at least two cases related to violence against women, benefited the defendants.
The most recent case was that of Abril Cecilia Pérez, who last January was the victim of an attempt at femicide by her husband, Juan Carlos “N”.

Although at the time she was able to save himself and report the events, April was shot dead by two subjects on Monday in Mexico City, while her ex-husband is free thanks to the fact that Judge Mosco Gonzalez reclassified the crime of femicide in an attempt to keep him in pre-trial detention, to “injuries and family violence”.
In a statement, PJCDMX announced that it has already initiated a research folder on the judge’s action, while the Mexico City Council of the Judiciary took the decision to suspend it until the analysis is complete.
“The Judiciary of Mexico City adds to social outrage and confirms its commitment to act on a gender perspective and against all violence against women,” the statement reads.
In addition to the reclassification of crimes in The April case last September, Judge Mosco Gonzalez decided not to link a doctor with a variety of backgrounds for alleged sexual abuse practices, who had been arrested after being accused of raping a patient in a public hospital.

Thanks to that decision, the defendant only faced charges for the crime of sexual abuse and was able to do so on release, without bail payment and without precautionary measures.
The Council of the Judiciary also decided to suspend Judge Luis Alejandro Díaz Antonio.
Confirm direct attack
Regarding April’s assassination, the Mexican City Security Secretariat confirmed that it was a direct attack on the 46-year-old woman.
The head of the unit, Omar García Harfuch, detailed that he he heeded the allegation of attempted femicide when he was head of the Investigative Police and that this area gave all possible evidence to Judge Mosco Gonzalez for the defendant to be prosecuted for that crime.
Meanwhile, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador lamented April’s murder and said that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation will address this case.
“These things are reprehensible, especially when the judiciary intervenes and there is a record that no protection was provided or there was support, on the contrary, the assailant was released,” the representative said at his morning conference on Friday.
“This has to be seen by the Supreme Court, I’m sure your president is going to take this matter,” he added.
The president also announced that his administration is conducting “a clean” in the judiciary and judges, magistrates and ministers appointed by acts of impunity are being punished.
