translated from Spanish: Central Station anticipated the end of the school year

The Municipality of Central Station decided to close the school year of its 15 municipal schools, with a total of 4 thousand students who finished their classes yesterday. The commune is the first in the Metropolitan Region to take the measure, this after the social outburst that has been in Chile for at least 42 days. The decision was made by a request from the school community, because due to the contingency it was best to opt for the year’s close, as indicated by Mayor Rodrigo Delgado (UDI). “We sent the document (request) to the ministry and they replied that we could initiate the closure,” Delgado told La Tercera. The option to close the school year early is followed by other communes in the capital, but mineduc said it is not the best option. It should be remembered that the commune of Santiago closed the academic year, before Estación Central, of three emblematic schools. The General Education Division reiterated that the academic calendar was scheduled to end on December 6 for full-time schools and 20 of the same month for those on part-time. Considering the contingency, the institution clarified that it would not be necessary to recover the lost classes, to the extent that the required learning is achieved. Delgado did not rule forward the start of classes one or two weeks for the period 2020, in order to do a leveling.
