translated from Spanish: Senate President values support for SMEs after announcement of economic revival, but argues that “structural reforms are pending”

The President of the Senate, Jaime Quintana (PPD), held a meeting on Monday with the Bureau of Social Unity, with the aim of “agreeing some aspects that have clearly not been on the agenda”.
“It has cost a lot in this crisis to be able to make a social agenda. I think the Government has had many opportunities,” said Quintana, who referred to this afternoon’s announcement by the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, who seeks to revive the economy and protect employment.
In this regard, the DPP MP appreciated the announcement of support for SMEs, which he called “positive”, but considered that “what is missed is an agenda for the dignity of people”.
In that vein, he argued that “what we have today discussed with the Social Unity Bureau, is what are those aspects that cannot cease to be, and that has to do with guaranteed minimum income (…) it has to do with the issue of our older adults’ medicines, with the pensions of the contributory pillar.”
“While there are aspects of the announcements made by the Executive that are valuable, such as support for SMEs, it seems to us that structural reforms are still pending,” Quintana added.
