translated from Spanish: “What happens in Chile is just a symptom of a global problem”: environmental organizations are calling for solutions to the climate crisis

In the midst of the implementation of COP25 in Madrid, the environmental organizations, Climate Action Network and Climate Justice Now referred to the complex social situation in Chile.
In a letter, the representative of both coalitions, Angela Valenzuela, argued that “what happens in Chile is just a symptom of a global problem: our current models do not sustain us and make the climate crisis worse.”
“Chile and the world are waking up. We see better than ever the dramatic impacts of the climate crisis and the serious warnings of three recent IPCC reports. In response, a historic mass movement for climate justice is emerging,” he added.
In this regard, Valenzuela explained that “at the Climate Action Summit in September, the heads of state and government of the largest issuing countries were unable to give an answer to the people and science,” so “now in this COP, we will hold the ministr leaders and we will demand fair solutions to the climate crisis.”
“We are closer than ever. With all the power of our Climate Action Network networks and climate justice movements around the world, we are shutting ranks with people on the streets and holding their leaders accountable!” he concluded.
