translated from Spanish: Relative of detainees claims they are innocent

Relatives of two men arrested for the attack on the LeBarón family rejected their relatives taking part in the massacre of nine people, recorded on November 4 in Bavispe, Sonora.
In an interview with the newspaper Reforma, Estefanía Hernández, daughter of Manuel Hernández, who along with his brother Mario was arrested by federal authorities, claimed that the two men “are scapegoats”.
Federal authorities identified Mario as an alleged head of the criminal group “La Línea” in the municipality of Janos, and he was arrested last Sunday by elements of the Army, Navy, Federal Ministerial Police, the National Intelligence Center and the National Guard.

According to Estefanía Hernández, one of his aunts – sister of the detainees – was able to speak with them at the facilities of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, and Mario told him that they were pressuring him to declare himself leader of the criminal group, which he refused.
Estefanía pointed out to Reforma that his uncle Mario is a rancher, has cows and a piece of land, while his father operates a veterinarian.
He also said that proof that the two detainees are innocent is that the people of Janos are with them, so between Monday night and Tuesday morning they blocked the road to Nuevo Casas Grandes and Sonora, at the height of their community, to demand justice.
The family reported that Mario and Manuel were sown drugs after violent arrest, and announced that they will continue to protest to demand the release of the two men.

On 1 December, the FGR reported the arrest of “several individuals” involved in the murder of nine members of the LeBarón family, including six children.
The information was released as members of the LeBarón family marched through Paseo de la Reforma to demand from the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador justice and a change in security strategy.
A day later, the relatives of the victims met with the president, and after their dialogue they signaled to be “happy with the results of the investigation, until today.”
