For the third consecutive year, the Illustrious Municipality of Zapallar advanced the start of the 2019-2020 beach season from this Thursday, December 12. The initiative he develops in conjunction with the Chilean Navy, through the Maritime Governorate of Valparaiso and the Capitanía de Puerto de Quintero transforms the first commune to start the season at the regional and national level.
On the occasion, the maritime authority detailed the early rating of the beaches of the commune of Zapallar, which will have the security measures for bathers. This is due to the increase in visitors that has been presented due to good weather conditions and high temperatures in the area.
The protocol signed – for the third consecutive year – between the Chilean Navy and the municipality of Zapallar, establishes the presence of an outpost that will operate in municipal facilities, which will be present throughout the summer season in the area who will will remain in the commune until March 15.
“We are very happy to consolidate for the third consecutive year the agreement with the Navy and to be able to have the presence of personnel of the institution 24 hours a day, having its center of operations in Zapallar. We want to give full security to our neighbors and families who visit from November the beaches of our commune and avoid accidents that can be fatal,” said Zapallar Mayor Gustavo Alessandri.

Among the novelties are the beginning of the international process that seeks to obtain the recognized “BlueFlag” certification for the beach of Cachagua, an instance granted since 1987 by the European Environmental Education Foundation (FEE) to the beaches and ports – worldwide – that meet a set of environmental conditions and facilities for their visitors.
The certification promotes and rewardes participation in voluntary environmental initiatives of the municipal authorities, the local and visiting population, together with the agents of the tourism sector. The criteria for obtaining the Blue Flag are grouped into four areas: beach water quality, environmental information and education, environmental management and safety, in addition to its services and facilities.
In addition, on the occasion the dispenser that will provide free sunscreen, which will be installed on the different beaches of the commune, was presented. The initiative of the municipality of Zapallar – unprecedented in the country – consists of a system of application of sunscreen by means of a nebulizer that facilitates the application quickly and very effectively.
