translated from Spanish: “Friendly Fire” on The Coin: National Council RN demands profound changes in Secom

“We are as always in line on communication issues.” This was the critical diagnosis made last September 2nd – before the outbreak – the president of Renovación Nacional, Mario Desbordes, holding the heart of La Moneda accountable for the loss of control of the agenda.
On that occasion, Desbordes pointed directly to the Secretariat of Communications (Secom), headed by Jorge Selume, noting that there is the flaw in this strategy. Today, following the realization of its national council, RN asked the Government for “profound changes” in the Communications Secretariat “to make known to the public the measures they have implemented”.
The council also asked the chair of Desbordes to “continue to push the changes they believe are necessary, with a clear roadmap, with proposals that tune with citizens, on four axes: social, political, anti-abuse and public order reforms.”
RN also reiterated their “unrestricted support” for Carabineros and the IDP’s work in the midst of the social crisis, and called for “strengthening their powers and tools to deal with the current situation”.
Finally, they resolved to support President Sebastián Piñera “in all the efforts and changes he is making to overcome the social crisis”.
“Freedom of action” before a plebiscite of constituent reform
It should be noted that the council also decided to give “freedom of action” to its militants regarding the entry plebiscite contemplated in the constituent process that seeks to end in a new Constitution.
The announcement was made by Desbordes himself, who explained that “here people have spoken for and against the change of Constitution, but all understanding that there is a framework of respect for each other’s position”.
Desbordes added that “if it is approved that there is no new Constitution, well that’s where the discussion came; if it’s the other way around, we get to work immediately on the candidacies that represent us at the constituent convention.”
