Mexico’s ambassador to Argentina, Ricardo Valero, resigned from the position «on health grounds,» the Chancellery said. This announcement occurs after it was announced that he was allegedly involved in another robbery, of T-shirts, in addition to the case of a book.
«Mr. Valero Recio Becerra will continue his treatment with the support of his family. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes him a speedy recovery,» chancellorread.
«Ricardo Valero is a great person, he is subject to neurological treatment, I wish him prompt recovery,» Chancellor Ebrard said.
According to the Argentine medium TN, Valero is also accused of being worn without paying T-shirts in the free shop in the city Of Ezeiza.
According to TN, this happened before he boarded the plane bound for Mexico, where Chancellor Ebrard ordered him to return to the country after being recorded allegedly stealing a book from the El Ateneo bookstore.
«I have asked the Ethics Committee to analyze the case of Ambassador to Argentina accused of stealing books from the famous bookstore. As soon as I’ve ordered you to come home. If it is verified that the video is truthful, it will be departed from the charge immediately. Zero tolerance for dishonesty,» the chancellor wrote,» Ebrard published on December 8.
The owner of the premises made a criminal complaint, for the case of the T-shirts, according to TN, and an investigation is already underway. The store’s videos will be reviewed next Monday.
Until 5 p.m. on Sunday, the Mexican government had not issued a statement on this case.
After the case of the allegedly stolen book was unveiled, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador defended the trajectory of Mexico’s ambassador to Argentina, Oscar Ricardo Valero Recio Becerra.
«He’s a career diplomat, a man with a lot of culture,» the president said.
«This unfortunate case is made, the Chancellery is attending to see what it comes from, that there are no political public lynchings, so I give the background, that the matter is dealt with in its dimension and that the dignity of people is not affected or destroyed.»
