The night fire on the Market of La Merced affected the premises of at least 890 traders, according to the secretariats of Economic Development and Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection.
Capital government agencies announced that a review of electrical installations in the 329 markets in the country’s capital will begin earlier this week, with support from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), to avoid another similar event.
In addition, they indicated, if necessary, any electrical installation exposing the life and heritage of the locals and visitors will be removed, after the fire in La Merced that left more than 630 burned premises.
Starting on, from Wednesday, staff from the Secretariat for Economic Development will integrate the affected list, to give locals recovery support.
According to the authorities, street trade in areas around the market will be withdrawn. Locatarians complained that this outpatient makes it difficult for firefighters to enter, when an emergency like this occurs.
The head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, went to talk to the affected locals, who expressed their complaints and what they need to continue their business.
Until Wednesday afternoon, it had not been specified what caused the fire at the La Merced market, which left two people deceased.
