“Five deceased people are located. In the place three more people were injured and were immediately transferred for their medical care, one of them unfortunately lost their lives when they were cared for,” says a report by Uriangato police.
Three other wounded arrived at the hospital on their own.
The victims include at least two gas station workers, although it is unknown whether they were killed or injured.
Authorities are reviewing security cameras to find the characteristics of the vehicles and people involved in the attack.
Guanajuato, one of Mexico’s leading industrial centers, concentrates large global manufacturers of automobiles, aircraft and other heavy manufacturing.
These activities, as well as the presence of important energy infrastructure, attract criminal organizations such as the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel or the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel that, in addition to drug trafficking, are engaged in activities such as extortion, kidnapping and theft of fuel.
Since December 2006, when the federal government launched a controversial military anti-drug operation, Mexico has accounted for about 275,000 murders, according to official figures that do not detail how many of these cases would be linked to organized crime.
