In Chile, Breast Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women. According to projections from the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2018 5,393 new cases of the disease were diagnosed in our country and 1,688 women lost their lives to it.
That is why, month by month, the mobile mammogram, with which Avon and the Arturo López Pérez Foundation (FALP) travel the country performing free mammograms. The aim is to promote the early detection of Breast Cancer, which in Chile is the leading cause of female cancer death.
26 years ago the company joined the crusade of millions of women to beat Breast Cancer, a global initiative that promotes the research, education and treatment of this ailment. Thanks to the help and motivation of around 6 million Independent Councillors, approximately $800 million has been donated to the cause, giving access to more than 19.3 million free mammograms and educating 180 million women on the subject worldwide.
In Chile according to statistics, 4 women die daily from breast cancer, however, 9 out of 10 women diagnosed – without the commitment of nodes – could survive; so early detection is critical.
“An early diagnosis saves lives, so within our actions to beat Breast Cancer, raise awareness in the population, is a central axis. It is the task of all people, men and women, to encourage the visit to the doctor and the realization of the mammography, incentivizing our mothers, friends, couples or daughters to be attentive. As a team we can reverse the high numbers of women who die every year as a result of this disease,” commented Sebastián Abad, general manager of Avon Chile.
With the Mobile Mammogram, women of risky age (and without access to the study) are performed free mumgrams throughout the country.
